2009 FUNDRAISING DINNER
ALBUQUERQUE – The inaugural dinner marked a successful beginning for the Duke City Duck Club. New Mexico’s first Delta Waterfowl Chapter raised just over $6,000, which will go to support waterfowl management on public, private and corporate lands and preserve waterfowl hunting as a traditional North American pursuit.
In addition to raising valuable funds the club added more than 50 new members to their roles. Most encouraging was the number of youth that participated in the evening, bucking the national trend of declining numbers of youth getting involved in hunting and angling.
GUN WINNERS
The big draws of the evening were the special edition Delta Waterfowl rifles and shotguns up for grabs. The Delta Waterfowl Gun of the Year: Browning Gold Superlight Hunter went to Josh Rector, Albuquerque. The Mossberg 500 Youth camo 20-gauge shotgun went to George Thorning, Albuquerque. The H&R Pardner 12-gauge camo pump shotgun went to Mark Jones, Albuquerque. The TriStar Viper 12-guauge Semi-Automatic shotgun went to Alan Varner, Albuquerque. The Remington Model 715 .243 rifle went to Nelson Ackerman Jr., Albuquerque. The Remington Model 597 .22 rifle was sold during the live auction with proceeds going to St. Baldrick’s, the world’s largest volunteer-driven fundraising event for childhood cancer research.
